Officer Juli Johnson with Carrollton Police Department wrote the following poem:

We have never met…..but

Because of the uniform I wear I will challenge the fear you are too scared to face.
Because of the uniform I wear I will defend those who cannot defend themselves.
Because of the uniform I wear I will protect as many as I can from the evil that exists.
Because of the uniform I wear I will be strong for you and will only cry when I am alone.
Because of the uniform I wear it is easier for you to see the good in people since I have witnessed so much bad.
Because of the uniform I wear I will do everything I can to right the wrong you have committed.
Because of the uniform I wear I spend time away from my family so you can be safe with yours.
Because of the uniform I wear my family does not know if today will be the last time they see me, talk to me or touch me.
Because of the uniform I wear you see me as the enemy.
Because of the uniform I wear you are willing to take my life yet, I am willing to sacrifice mine to save yours.

We have never met…so

You do not know the person, spouse, parent, sibling or friend I really am. You do not know what makes me laugh, cry, happy or sad. You do not know my personal, religious or political views. You do not know what is truly important to me. God, Family, Country and Justice.

You only see the cop because of the uniform I proudly wear.

Description
The Detention Supervisor is responsible for the care and control/security of the jail facility and its inmates. Essential Functions include performing all administrative, clerical and manual duties associated with the detention of prisoners and ensuring that the jail is properly staffed on a daily basis. The supervisor will supervise the detention staff and ensure that all policies and procedures are followed. As a working supervisor, you will assist with the daily activities in the jail, completing detention officer tasks while keeping up with supervisory responsibilities.Applicants should be aware that detention supervisors routinely come into contact with resisting, uncooperative prisoners, and there is a possibility of being physically assaulted. All detention supervisors must attend defensive tactics training which is physically demanding.Detention Supervisors work 12-hour shifts – 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with designated regular days off. Evening shifts receive shift differential. However, regular days off are subject to change. Incumbent must be able to work all shifts and hours, including nights, holidays, weekends and occasional overtime required.Requires a high school diploma/GED and 3 years experience as a Detention Officer 1 yr preferred of supervisor experience, with preference in municipal/county jail. Incumbent must have a thorough understanding in all areas of jail operation, written directives, judicial orders and applicable state/federal law. Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.Must obtain State Jail Certification, TCLEOSE certification, defensive tactics training, intoxilizer training and other mandatory training as required within one year of employment or within department guidelines due to scheduling of class. Valid Texas driver’s license required. Typing 25 wpm and computer skills are required.THIS POSITION REQUIRES THE FOLLOWING PRE-EMPLOYMENT CHECKS: detailed criminal background processing, psychological examination, polygraph examination, drug/alcohol testing, and pre-employment physical. Candidate must possess the ability to lift or exert forces up to 100 lbs and push/pull up to 50 lbs.

Pay Range: $17.34 – $22.55/hour, DOQ

Development of the course was funded by TEEX in support of a standardized municipal jail training process and preparation for potential training mandates being discussed at the state level.

Although all practical skills training will remain the responsibility of local municipalities, this 40 hour course like the Basic County Corrections online training will help to reduce the need for travel and backfill, resulting in lower training costs and a shorter time period before new jail staff become productive members of the agency.
